The annual Special Olympics Polar Bear Plunge events are quite the rage across Minnesota and Wisconsin. A unique opportunity for individuals, organizations and businesses to support Special Olympics by raising money to jump into frigid Midwest waters, it consists of numerous events across the two states during the coldest months of the year.As part of the local “Supports” community initiatives created by FOX Sports North and FOX Sports Wisconsin, employees decided to support the cause by:
- Creating awareness: Both regions created PSAs and promoted the events during telecasts
- Raising money: $12,631 raised to benefit Special Olympics
- Braving the frigid cold waters: Numerous employees took the plunge
FOX Sports North Plunges in Minneapolis, Minn.

rter Kevin Gorg faced-off against “Team Wild,” lead by Minnesota Wild player Cam Barker. 19 employees along with friends and fans joined the team and braved the cold to plunge into Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis on Saturday, March 5. The team raised $11,531 for Special Olympics Minnesota
* The network created a custom animated PSA with the three team captains (as bobble heads) to promote the plunge.

FOX Sports Wisconsin Jumps in Green Bay, Wis.
The FOX Sports Wisconsin team, lead by employee Katie Mangin, took the plunge to benefit Special Olympics of Wisconsin on Saturday, February 26 in Green Bay. The team raised $1,100 for Special Olympics Wisconsin.
