FOXSportsOhio.com Celebrates Record Month for Web Traffic

FOXSportsOhio.com had a record September despite the lack of performance by major Ohio teams.


  • Showed that we can generate significant traffic by jumping on news rather than simply covering games.
  • Set new traffic record for monthly unique visitors and page views: achieved largest number of unique visitors in a day, surpassing previous high by 17%.
  • Views exceeded unique visitors, indicating visitors were returning to the page or flipping through comments to take part in the conversation.
  • The additional discussion has led to a 30% increase in pages viewed per visit over the last five months vs. the first four months of the year.

2011 Cavs NBA Draft: FOX Sports Ohio Offers Unique Web Content & Promotional Support

With the Cleveland Cavaliers having the #1 and #4 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, there was a lot of excitement surrounding the Cavaliers and the much anticipated draft on Thurs. June 23rd. FOX Sports Ohio partnered with the team and executed extensive website analysis to become THE leading provider of NBA Draft coverage. The efforts resulted in outstanding web activity, unique event coverage and on-site event support.
  • The two days leading up to the draft, FOXSportsOhio.com’s editorial resulted in 20X increase in daily page views and 30X increase in unique visitors
  • FOXSportsOhio.com featured a live pre-draft chat, live streaming coverage from Cavs Draft home base during the draft, and a post-draft press conference. The post-draft presser generated some of the top live streaming numbers in site history
  • FSOhio Cavs broadcasters helped host the Cavs Draft Party from the floor of Quicken Loans Arena.
  • Garnered over 750 text entries for a Draft Party Experience promotion and assisted the team in driving over 7,500 fans to the Draft Party

Tressel Resigns, FOX Sports Ohio Reacts

When Ohio State's Jim Tressel announced his resignation on Memorial Day, the team at FOX Sports Ohio and FOXSportsOhio.com sprang into action to cover the story and become the “go-to” for all things Tressel.

The coverage resulted in a record breaking day:
  • Memorial Day was the largest single day in FOXSportsOhio.com history, with unique visitors surpassing the mark set just the previous month by 30%. 
  • Those users stayed longer on the site, read more articles, and looked at more photos than ever before: an increase of 82% from in page views from the previous single high mark set in April
  • FOXSportsOhio.com was kept at the center of the story with new analysis and features throughout the day, providing not only the initial news, but statements from the team, a timeline of Tressel's career, and analysis of the team's next steps
  • The web writers were featured on more than a dozen local and national radio and TV, including The Dan Patrick Show, The Jim Rome Show, ESPN College Football Live and more.
  • Coverage was integrated into Cincinnati Reds production “Web Minutes” segment and promoted with Gameflow and in-game broadcaster discussion.

Tressel Scandal = Big Numbers for FOXSportsOhio.com

Following the success of it's initial coverage of the controversy surrounding Ohio State's Jim Tressel and the NCAA, FOXSportsOhio.com continued to follow the story throughout the entire month of March. Despite other big stories, such as Ohio State winning the Big 10 and going deep in the NCAA tournament and the Cleveland Cavs' win over the Miami Heat, the Tressel scandal coverage still ended the month on top.

*5 of the top 8 articles over the entire month of March
*The top 2 videos on the site all month long were of Tressel's press coverage, comprising of 50% of all video views on the site.

FOX Sports Ohio Tackles Tressel Controversy, Web Traffic Soars

When an unnamed source accused Ohio State's Jim Tressel of knowing about his players potential NCAA violations before original investigation, FOXSportsOhio.com followed the story as it unfolded.


* FOXSportsOhio.com had its second biggest day in the site's history, with 10x unique visitors.


Video section saw 20x the normal daily viewing, with  "Tressel Discusses Confidential Emails" becoming the fourth-most viewed video in site history.

FOXSportsOhio.com Sets Traffic Record 2X in February


FOXSportsOhio.com set new all-time records with coverage of Cavaliers-Lakers postgame and a local high school coaching controversy.

Sam Amico & Zac Jackson's coverage following the Cavs upset against the Lakers resulted in a record number of unique visitors in a single day (10X greater than typical day & over 20% higher than the previous record day.)

• After Zac Jackson's article on a coaching controversy at a Northeast Ohio high school was featured as “Editor’s Pick” on MSN.com, FOXSportsOhio.com saw an 8X increase in unique visitors relative to the site’s typical weekday traffic.
