2011 Cavs NBA Draft: FOX Sports Ohio Offers Unique Web Content & Promotional Support

With the Cleveland Cavaliers having the #1 and #4 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, there was a lot of excitement surrounding the Cavaliers and the much anticipated draft on Thurs. June 23rd. FOX Sports Ohio partnered with the team and executed extensive website analysis to become THE leading provider of NBA Draft coverage. The efforts resulted in outstanding web activity, unique event coverage and on-site event support.
  • The two days leading up to the draft, FOXSportsOhio.com’s editorial resulted in 20X increase in daily page views and 30X increase in unique visitors
  • FOXSportsOhio.com featured a live pre-draft chat, live streaming coverage from Cavs Draft home base during the draft, and a post-draft press conference. The post-draft presser generated some of the top live streaming numbers in site history
  • FSOhio Cavs broadcasters helped host the Cavs Draft Party from the floor of Quicken Loans Arena.
  • Garnered over 750 text entries for a Draft Party Experience promotion and assisted the team in driving over 7,500 fans to the Draft Party

  • Despite hundreds of similar articles around the web, Amico's 2011 mock draft saw a 30X increase in unique visitors to the site on June 21st and was featured on MSN.

The duo hosted a live hour-long chat the afternoon of the draft that drew over 200 participants. Later that evening, they set up camp at the Cleveland Clinic Courts, where the Cavs war room is located. From there, they provided their exclusive analysis in a live video stream on FOXSportsOhio.com during the draft.

The next day as the Cavs officially introduced Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson as the newest Cavaliers. FOXSportsOhio.com streamed the afternoon press conference live to over 2000 viewers, some of the best numbers for a live stream viewing in site history

Cavs Draft Party Highlights:

The Cavaliers hosted a free party for fans at Quicken Loans Arena, featuring all sorts of entertainment and activities as well as showing the live draft on the arena’s video board. FSOhio’s Cavs broadcasters Austin Carr, Campy Russell and Fred McLeod sat behind the network’s branded desk stationed on the center of the arena floor and provided analysis and updates throughout the evening. The FSOhio event team was also set up on the concourse to play games and engage fans.
FOX Sports Ohio worked with the Cavs to implement and execute a promotional texting campaign to education Cavs fans about the Cavaliers Draft Party and increase attendance.

*During the final days leading up to the Draft, fans who texted “Party” to the Cavs short code were entered to win the opportunity to enjoy the Draft party in a suite at the Q including a meet and greet with FSOhio Cavs broadcasters, food and non-alcoholic beverages.
