When the Detroit Tigers returned from the All-Star break on July 15, fans were treated to a choice of telecasts. Regular game coverage was provided on FOX Sports Detroit, while FOX Sports Detroit PLUS presented a unique live look how a Tigers telecast is put together and delivered into viewers' homes.The alternate telecast delivered a split screen presentation: part game action (as seen on FS Detroit); part an inside view/explanation of what goes on in the production truck, the broadcast booth, at camera locations and from other positions pivotal to the final product.
The ambitious project -- orchestrated by FOX Sports Detroit executive producer John Tuohey and involving the 30-plus members of that evening's production crew -- received several advance mentions from regional media outlets, including a lengthy feature in the Oakland (Mich.) Press, while the Detroit Free Press made the dual telecast its "What to Watch" item. The alternate telecast also received attention on the national industry level with a story in the Sports Video Group daily newsletter.
