#BravesLIVE Countdown to Opening Day Reaches Over 500,000 on Social Media

The 2013 Atlanta Braves season has been one of the most anticipated years in recent history, with the additions of B.J. and Justin Upton in the outfield and an established pitching staff returning for the team.   FOX Sports South looked to capitalize on the excitement for the season via a countdown to Opening Day across social media channels and off channel assets, such as digital billboards.

The social media countdown, via the network’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts began two weeks before Opening Day and consisted of interesting numerical facts that tied into Braves history and into the countdown day.

“#BravesLIVE Countdown - 14 Days Until Opening Day!  Bobby Cox led the Atlanta Braves to 14-straight Division Titles .”

In total, the countdown included over 40 posts on the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts and surpassed 500,000 in the total number of people reached.

During these two weeks leading up to the 2013 season, the Facebook page exceeded the 40,000 likes mark, and the page almost doubled its average weekly reach, from an average reach of 70,000 before the countdown began, to an average reach of over 100,000 by the end of the two-week countdown.

Gone Viral: Evan Gattis hits 1st major league home run, while his father is being interviewed live from the stands on FOX Sports South

Video of Tom Hart’s interview with Evan Gattis’ father during last night’s Braves game on FOX Sports South has gone viral, after being picked up by Yahoo Sports, USA Today and several other sites.  In case you missed it, Gattis hit his first career HR while the interview with his father was taking place in the stands.

From USA Today story:
During Gattis' second at-bat, the Braves' broadcast team on FOX Sports South found Gattis' parents in the crowd to interview father Jo Gattis about the rookie's meandering path to the big leagues.
"Did you ever imagine he'd end up in this situation?" reporter Tom Hart asked the elder Gattis.
"No, I did not," Jo Gattis said. "He told me he was done and I--":
As his father explained how improbable it was for Gattis to even reach the majors, Gattis turned on a 1-1 pitch from Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay and drove it over the left-center field wall in Turner Field for his first career hit and first home run.

FOX Sports South and SportSouth Website and Facebook Page a Hit with Braves Fans

With spring in the air and the sound of balls hitting mitts, the FOX Sports South crew headed to Orlando for the start of Atlanta Braves Spring Training. To garner excitement for the start of baseball and create awareness of where fans can watch their favorite team, the FOX Sports South team focused attention to the website and Facebook.

In the weeks leading up to the FOX Sports South visit to Spring Training, the Facebook page was reaching an average of 30,000 Facebook users but once players hit Orlando, the page has doubled its viewers, reaching between 60,000-80,000 average users. During this time, more than 4,000 people have been talking about the page (generating stories off FOX Sports South’s content/posts) and since February 11, the page has received over 200 new likes.

The FOX Sports South official website, www.foxsportsouth.com, has also seen a bump around the Braves reporting for camp. During the month of February, the website has topped 5 million viewers and over 1.7 million unique views. It is the fourth-straight month that the FOX Sports South site has seen increased traffic and the third straight with more than 1.5 million unique views.

Braves fans were provided fly-on-the-wall videos that showed a unique perspective of the players hitting and fielding, interactive videos where players answered fans' twitter questions and lots of photos on the FOX Sports South Instagram account. The FOX Sports South team also made sure to include some content featuring Chipper Jones in camp in a different capacity.
