FOXSportsSoutwest.com recorded surprise marriage proposal of Texas State women's basketball player and video was elevated to MSN.com.
Clip attracted 1.6 million views - most ever for a FOX Sports local website.
The video kicked off “March Madness” on FOX Sports Southwest, which featured 48 high school and college basketball tournament webcasts and live television coverage of Texas and Oklahoma high school boy’s and girl’s state championship games.
Over a three day period and five live telecasts, over10,000 people scanned a QR code resulting in over 40,000 video views.
A merging of Phizzle and SnappyTV, the QR code brings fans instant highlights from a live telecast.
The structure works on all platforms to match the diverse technology used by viewers (iPhones, iPads, Android and Blackberry).
This QR code might look like something you would be inclined to scan at the grocery store in the self check-out lane, but it’s actually much more. Recently, QR codes are showing up on products including marketing materials, billboards and more. For the first known time during a live sporting event, FOX Sports North successfully posted a QR code on the TV screen as part of a live telecast.
In what appears to be a response to Time Warner Cable’s plans to launch a Spanish-language regional sports network in Los Angeles, Fox Sports will make many of its Angels, Dodgers and Clippers games available in Spanish starting this season.
Fox Sports is negotiating with local cable operators to carry those Spanish-language games on a basic tier. Prime Ticket and FS West would keep their regular channel positions on Los Angeles-area cable systems. The cable operators would simply find an overflow channel where they would put the Spanish-language games.
FOX Sports West and Prime Ticket were recently recognized on a national level with a network record 19 Telly Awards, nine more than the region's production department has earned in past years. This marks 54 cumulative Telly Award wins since the networks began submitting work in 2006.
Highlighting this year's Telly wins are:
- Westlake vs Oaks Christian - the region's first Telly nod for a live high school football game.
- Trona Football - In line with FS West's goal of showcasing the full spectrum of CIF Southern Section prep football programs, the Prep Zone crew traveled to Trona, CA, located three hours north of Los Angeles, to feature the world's only sand field:
- "Under the Halo" - In celebration of the Angels 50th Anniversary in 2011, FS West documented Halo history with this original series voiced by Dick Enberg:
- Dakota Meyer - Recently recognized at the 2011 Lott IMPACT Trophy Ceremony in Newport Beach, CA, Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer discusses his military career and his plans to help kids.

Mike Dimond, Senior Vice President and General Manager for FOX Sports North, also master griller. Dimond, along withrepresentatives from all of Minnesota’s pro sports teams (Ted Johnson, Timberwolves; Patrick Klinger, Twins; Bryan Harper, Vikings and Jim Ibister, Wild) recently took the long flight to Kuwait with “Serving Our Troops” to make dinner a little meatier for local soldiers.
"Serving our Troops" is a local organization that shows support and thanks to those who put themselves in harm's way by serving steak dinners to National Guard troops overseas and to their families back in Minnesota.
Not only did the trip provide FOX Sports North an opportunity to educate viewers about a great organization, but also the chance to show thanks to the men and women who serve our country.
Creative use of marketing, PR, social media, and online resources allows FOX Sports Florida to tap into the buzz surrounding the All-Star Game in Orlando and connect with hundreds of thousands of fans last weekend.
