This QR code might look like something you would be inclined to scan at the grocery store in the self check-out lane, but it’s actually much more. Recently, QR codes are showing up on products including marketing materials, billboards and more. For the first known time during a live sporting event, FOX Sports North successfully posted a QR code on the TV screen as part of a live telecast.
How do QR Codes work?

The Process:
-Producers from FOX Sports North created a QR code through the Phizzle platform. The QR code was then turned into a lower third graphic used during the live telecasts.
-After scanning the code, viewers were directed to a SnappyTV WAP site to view instant highlights.
-The structure works on all the platforms matching the diverse technology used by viewers.
The Result:
The QR code was shown multiple times throughout FOX Sports North’s coverage of the WCHA Final Five tournament (five games over the course of three days). The instant highlights were also promoted on FOXsportsnorth.com and via FOX Sports North’s Facebook and Twitter platforms.
Numbers significantly surpassed other “text for highlights” campaigns implemented in the past:
-Over 40,000 video views, including 23,000+ views during the championship game alone
-A total of 10,243 QR code scans recorded over three days
-Multiple retweets by viewers as well as tournament athletic departments, helped generate exposure
FOX Sports North hopes to use QR codes for other upcoming projects.
