QR Code Returns to the FOX Sports North TV Screen

Last winter, FOX Sports North delivered a new and never-before-seen interactive experience for college hockey fans.  The network posted a QR code on the televison screen during the WCHA Final Five Tournament,  resulting in thousands of scans/views. View previous Spotlight

• A merging of Phizzle and SnappyTV, the QR code brings fans instant highlights from a live telecast.
• The structure works on all platforms to match the diverse technology used by viewers (iPhones, iPads, Android and Blackberry).

FOX Sports North integrated the QR code into a new season of college hockey, posting the QR code during University of Minnesota Gopher Hockey telecasts Oct. 12 and Oct. 13.

FOX Sports North will continue to promote the QR codes on screen during Gopher Hockey telecasts this season and will also explore in-arena marketing/PR opportunities to reach fans watching the game live.

This QR code might look like something you would be inclined to scan at the grocery store in the self-check-out lane, but it’s actually much more.
Recently, QR codes are showing up on products including marketing materials, billboards and more. Now, FOX Sports North is successfully posting QR codes on the TV screen as part of a live telecast.

How do QR Codes work?

1. Download a QR reader app for your mobile phone
2. Scan the code
3. Once scanned, you are immediately directed to a website with targeted information

The Process:

• Producers from FOX Sports North created a QR code through the Phizzle platform. The QR code was then turned into a lower third graphic used during the live telecasts.
• After scanning the code, viewers were directed to a SnappyTV WAP site to view instant highlights.
• The structure works on all the platforms matching the diverse technology used by viewers.
