Texans Donate New Home to Marine Widow; Story Leads Coverage on FOX Sports Houston.com

This past Christmas, FOX Sports Houston was on hand to document and participate in a touching story at a recent Houston Texans game. The Texans surprised the widow and son of a U.S. Marine sergeant who died in December as a result of injuries sustained in combat in Iraq with a mortgage-free home.

The story and video of the event posted on foxsportshouston.com generated record traffic for the local website and was the most-viewed video among local FS websites in December.

It also contributed to a record traffic month for foxsportshouston.com in December.

The story and video of the event posted on foxsportshouston.com generated record traffic for the local website, including:

* 1.55 million page views
* 283,000 video views
* The most-viewed video among local FS websites in December

FOX Sports Houston’s Patti Smith emceed the halftime ceremony at Reliant Stadium, which was shown on the in-house jumbotron.

The Texans presented Sara Wood and her son, Landon, a gift basket and bicycle. When Smith told them about the home, donated by the Texans and Operation Finally Home, Sara was overwhelmed and broke down in tears of happiness.

After FOX Sports Houston digital content manager Ray Fisher was alerted by the Houston Texans PR staff of the planned ceremony, he assigned correspondent Tully Corcoran to cover the event.

To help support Corcoran's story, Fisher shot heart-warming photos of the surprise giveaway for a special photo gallery on foxsportshouston com.

The story and video also were picked up by MSN, Yahoo and the Houston Chronicle.
