Top 10 Moments of FOX Sports San Diego’s Inaugural Year
Just under a year ago, FOX Sports San Diego (FSSD) began with one person, senior vice president and general manager, Henry Ford. Since then, the network has grown to twenty-one full-time employees joined by the common goal of providing exceptional local sports programming while giving back to the community of San Diego.
Following is a chronological list of the top 10 moments of FOX Sports San Diego’s inaugural year.
· March 15 – An agreement is reached with Cox to carry FOX Sports San Diego in full in addition to an agreement reached with DIRECTV to make San Diego Padres telecasts available to their customers.
· March 17 – The newest FOX Sports region launches, airing the first of five Padres Spring Training games and celebrates by hosting a viewing party at the FOX Sports Grill.
· April 5 – Padres Opening Day arrives on FOX Sports San Diego.
· July 4 – For the Troops, a special Padres telecast dedicated to San Diego’s military, is produced and televised on FOX Sports San Diego.
· July 18 – Opening Day at the Del Mar Races, a special edition broadcast of Padres Live pregame and postgame, live from Del Mar Racetrack’s Opening Day is produced and televised on FOX Sports San Diego.
· August 27 – FOX Sports San Diego kicks off a partnership with local non-profit, After-School All-Stars. Ford presents a $50,000 sponsorship check to Tyree Dillingham, Executive Director of ASAS, during a special Padres telecast dedicated to the organization.
· September 27 – A long-term media rights agreement is reached with the Big West Conference. FOX Sports San Diego (along with FOX Sports West in LA) becomes the regional home of Big West athletics and the new television home of the home of the San Diego State Aztecs when they move to the conference in 2013.
· October 3 – An agreement is reached with AT&T U-verse to carry FOX Sports San Diego in full.
· October 6 – Clippers basketball debuts on FOX Sports San Diego.
· November 11 – The Battle on the Midway, a college basketball game featuring San Diego State University and Syracuse University atop the historic U.S.S. Midway, is produced by FOX Sports San Diego and televised nationally.
While 2012 was an outstanding inaugural year, the network is already hard at work on 2013. Fans can look forward to an exciting Padres season, an intense playoff race for the Clippers, a new television home for their San Diego State men’s basketball team and much more from FOX Sports San Diego.
