FOX Sports Detroit Joins Hockey World
in Salute of Red Wings Announcer

Prestigious NHL broadcasting award won by popular Red Wings analyst Mickey Redmond was shared with fans via:

* Long form interviews
* Devoted Facebook page
* Personalized web "greetings"
* Devoted WINGSPAN episode

FOX Sports Detroit's Mickey Redmond -- a fixture as analyst on Red Wings telecasts for 26 years (the last 15 on FS Detroit) -- received the prestigious Foster Hewitt Memorial Award on Nov. 14 as part of the Hockey Hall of Fame Induction festivities.

The award, presented by the NHL Broadcasters Association, went to Redmond for his contributions to the sport of hockey and the broadcasting profession.
FOX Sports Detroit's media relations, digital content and production departments made efforts to share Redmond's honor with his longtime fans in the following ways:

Print/Radio Interviews:  Redmond, also a favorite of local media, was the subject of lengthy articles that received prominent placement in the Detroit Free Press (left), Detroit News, Oakland Press, statewide news agency MLive and on FoxSportsDetroit.com.

The Free Press provided a reaction story the day after Redmond received the award.

Additionally, Redmond was interviewed on WJR Radio by national sports and media personality Mitch Albom.

Facebook:  FOX Sports Detroit's digital content assistant Michael Heidner (with consultation from Digital Royalty) created a multi-media  "Congratulations Mickey" page on Facebook that provided links to the newspaper articles, access to audio and video features, including a "soundboard" of some of Redmond's famous "Mickeyisms" that have long delighted Red Wings TV viewers.

Red Wings fans from near and far were able to link to a page at FoxSportsDetroit.com where they could leave personalized well-wishes for Redmond.

Meanwhile, on Nov. 14 -- the day Redmond received the Foster Hewitt Award -- the 43,000+ fans who "like" FOX Sports Detroit's primary Facebook page were treated to a special avatar (shown at left).

Programming:  FOX Sports Detroit's production team sent  reporter Trevor Thompson, producer Lesley Clegg and photographer Kevin Guralewski to Toronto for Redmond's award award ceremony for Redmond and for that night's Hockey Hall of Fame induction.  They also visited Redmond's boyhood hometown of Peterborough, Ontario to get more footage and flavor for a special edition of WINGSPAN, premiering Nov. 23.

An excerpt from Redmond's acceptance speech was part of RED WINGS LIVE pregame on Nov. 15.
