SportsTime Ohio Phantom Cam a 'game changer'

Phantom Cam — Fox Sports' “super- and ultra-slow-motion camera” — will be used for the Indians' three-game series at Detroit, which begins Tuesday night.

The camera shoots at 5,000 frames per second. X-Mo, the slow-motion technology used for every Tribe game on SportsTime Ohio, shoots at 1,000 to 2,000 frames per second.

The fascinating technology was used on an experimental basis for some Indians games last season, and was part of SportsTime Ohio's broadcasts of the Tribe's three-game series against the Twins from April 4-6.

Fox has three Phantom Cams that it rotates among all of its regional sports networks during the major-league season.

In a news release issued by SportsTime Ohio, Tom Farmer, the network's executive producer, called the technology a “game changer.”

How cool is the camera? Take a look.
